Should I use a crate for my Cane Corso?

Cane Corso breed dog

The Cane Corso is a dog breed that generally requires a lot of space. If you have a Cane Corso, you might find yourself wondering if it’s okay to keep your Corso in a crate when you’re not home.

As mentioned, Cane Corsos dogs are very large and need lots of room to stretch out and play with their family. You probably can’t spend hours playing fetch or some other physical activity with them because they’ll wear themselves out. This alone would make Cane Corso appear like “bad” dogs, but they aren’t; Cane Corsos were bred to guard livestock from anywhere from one hundred all the way up to several thousand pounds of weight. To put this into perspective for you, one thousand pounds is equivalent to the weight of two burly men.

Cane corsos were also bred to guard, and what better way for a Cane Corso to feel like it’s guarding than when it has space? You don’t want your Cane Corso in a crate because Cane Corso yearn for freedom and they’re intelligent dogs and can figure out how to escape from crates if given enough time (and maybe some treats).

So we know that Cane Corso do best when they have their freedom, but they need exercise too. The answer? Get several Cane Corso so you can run with them all day or get a few so you can take turns walking with each cane corso. If this isn’t an option for you, talk to your vet about Cane Corso exercise requirements and maybe there’s a Cane Corso specific runner or walker in your area.

Also keep in mind Cane Corsos are all bark and no bite. Despite their large size, Cane Corsos don’t have the jaw strength to do any serious damage unless they’re trying to protect someone they love. If you have dogs that are very protective of their family, then it might be worth getting one Cane Corso just so it can have its own space when you’re not home. At least this way it won’t feel lonely because every Cane Corso needs attention from its owners even if they’d rather be left alone sometimes.

It’s up toyou whether you want to crate your Cane Corso, but if you have a cane corso and live in a house with a fenced yard, then chances are Cane Corso won’t need much human attention. If this is the case, then it’s probably best not to crate them at all because Cane Corsos were never meant to spend long hours in small spaces.

But if you don’t have a fenced yard or space for your Cane corso to run around (or different cane corsos for it to play with) without getting into trouble, then maybe you should consider crating your Cane Corso until they can get out of the house during the day. Crating isn’t good for any dog breed, but Cane corsos can get out of crates if they’re determined enough, so crate training Cane Corso puppies is crucial for their safety.

Crate training Cane Corso puppies will keep them safe and give you peace of mind while you’re away from home. Just be sure to put in several hours each day playing with your CaneCorso so it doesn’t feel lonely when it’s not getting attention for the rest of the day. This way, Cane Corsos will grow up knowing they have owners that care about them no matter how big they get.
