When an animal is cropped, the ears are cropped. This is a standard physical trait in many breeds of dogs. The cropped ear look is common among Dobermans, Rottweilers, Boxers, mastiffs, and other breeds. But many people have this question about Cane Corso: Do all Cane Corsos Have Cropped Ears?
Cane Corsos can be cropped or uncropped – it depends on your preference and the breeder’s preferences. However, most Cane Corso breeders will crop their puppies’ ears at 2 to 3 months old (you can ask for proof). There are some puppy mills that abuse their animals by keeping them with pointed ears; this practice was banned by AKC in 2006.

If you want to get cropped ears on your Cane Corso, there are several things to take into account
– It is easier to judge and identify a cropped dog than an uncropped dog
– Puppy mills usually don’t crop their puppies’ ears in order to make it easier to sell them for more money. The un-cropped ear look becomes part of their selling point. They usually go for pointed ears instead of floppy ears because it looks more intimidating when pointed up. You must educate yourself well about what breeders do before agreeing with any decision – always ask to see proof that all puppies have been cropped (you can request to view pictures of cropped puppies).
– It is easier to identify cropped ears in mixed breeds instead of uncropped
– If you are getting a Cane Corso puppy from a breeder – it is more likely that they will have cropped their puppies’ ears. You can clearly see the difference in their ears when you take one look at them. Also, when your dog starts growing up enough to where everyone can tell what breed they are, it becomes easier for anyone else who might come across the same type of dog to easily distinguish cropped versus naturally-protruding ears.
– When an animal has its ear cropped, people might assume that the dog was rescued/saved from abuse by the breeder
– If a cropped dog gets out of its home or backyard, anyone who spots the cropped ear might believe that the animal has been abused by his/her previous owner. This can be true in some cases but many breeders cropped their animals’ ears to avoid being identified as a puppy mill and so they don’t get reported for it.
– If you have a Cane Corso whose ears have not yet been cropped and want your Cane Corso’s ears to be cropped then you will have to pay additional money on top of what you already paid for the dog (cropping costs around $200-$300 – £300 – £400 in the UK).
